It is the responsibility of the applicant to demonstrate eligibility against the criteria and to ensure all accurate, relevant evidence and information is provided while the round is open. If eligibility cannot be determined by the information provided, the application may be deemed ineligible.

If your business is part of an embedded network and does not receive an electricity bill directly from an energy retailer, you may still be eligible to apply if you can provide evidence that you are paying electricity costs for the business premises.

Upfront eligibility Check

The following questions determine if you can continue an application for a Powering Business Grant.

Has a valid and active Australian Business Number (ABN) * Required
Is registered for Goods and Services Tax (GST) as at 29 July 2025 * Required
Not for profits not registered for GST can apply if they can demonstrate turnover of at least $75,000 in the last financial year.
Can provide 6 months of energy bills addressed to the business directly from an energy retailer (or, for an Embedded Network, other evidence as described in the guidelines). * Required
Had Australia-wide grouped payroll less than $18 million in the financial year 2024-25 * Required
This will be checked against information held by RevenueSA
Had annual business turnover greater $75,000 in the financial year 2024-25 * Required
Is not a publicly listed company within the meaning of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) * Required

Is a South Australian entity as defined in the guidelines * Required
Is a current electricity customer connected to the network or on an embedded network * Required
If you are on an Embedded Network and pay electricity, you are considered "connected to the network"
The business operates from a commercial premises (or has a separate business NMI for the business entity operating at a residential property) * Required
Is the business moving to, or constructing a new commercial premises where the activity is intended to be carried out? * Required

If your business is moving to, or constructing a new commercial premises, you may still be eligible to apply if:

  1. the new premises is owned or leased by the applicant for the purpose of carrying on the existing business;
  2. the project expenditure was not incurred or committed (i.e. deposit paid, contract signed or order placed) prior to an application being approved and the grant offer accepted;
  3. the existing business is moving from an existing business premises (i.e. not a home-based business premises);
  4. you are able to provide evidence of previous energy usage for six months for the existing business;
  5. you can provide evidence that the new business premises is in the name of the applicant (e.g. rates notice, utility bill, lease agreement, certificate of title, building contract); and
  6. you are able to complete the project and submit your claim for reimbursement, within six months of signing the grant agreement.
